| Member | I'm back and have a run down of my trip. We have 6 on our list since the final descision on the buy out won't be made until the 17th of July and any one of our list can go under contract before we get to it. Anyway, here is the list with links to pictures. Liz Liz' househunting trip: This is how we ended up. First choice: http://western-nc.carolina-idx.com/d...&mls_in=350552 It's in Saluda, NC, a VERY small town. 2000 census put it at 575 people. http://www.city-data.com/city/Saluda...-Carolina.html http://www.saluda.com/ http://photos.yahoo.com/southernlady5464 Second choice: http://western-nc.carolina-idx.com/d...&mls_in=337011 This one is in Hendersonville, NC off Hwy 64 heading toward what is refered to as Apple Valley and Bat Cave. Also near the Lake Lure area. It's a newer house. Since the owner was on hand, I didn't take pictures. Third choice: http://www.remaxtryon.com/listings.htm 402 South Shamrock Landrum SC 29356 $118,000 We really liked this one but it also has inherent problems that come with OLD houses so it is third on the list. Plus it is in daddy's backyard just about. Also no pictures here since the owner was home. This one is dirt cheap compared to the rest but would require the most work. Fourth choice: http://western-nc.carolina-idx.com/d...&mls_in=353267 Peak Street was my first choice originally until dh found problems in the basement with the pipes and we find problems with the wiring. Plus there was another couple looking at this one a second time so it may be off the market by the time we get approved anyway. http://photos.yahoo.com/southernlady5464 Fifth choice: http://western-nc.carolina-idx.com/d...&mls_in=333538 Lockhart in Tryon has some really interesting features. The big problem is nothing has been updated since it was built in 1950. Also there is a musty odor in the basement. Whether that can be gotten rid of or not is a guess but I suspect so since I didn't spot any mold. http://photos.yahoo.com/southernlady5464 Sixth choice: http://www.spartanburgrealtors.com/d...=144488&page=1 204 Johnson St Landrum SC 29356 $169,000 This one was really nice but had a few problems. Also the lot looked like it had been bombed. And for about the same price, we can have lots of trees in Saluda. http://photos.yahoo.com/southernlady5464 |

| Designer | wow... the hours are so cheap over there our house is tiny compared with all those and worth around $200,000 in US money - less than £100,000 here though. The house we sold in London would have cost around $500,000 and was even smaller - 3 tiny bedrooms, 1 downstairs room, kitchen and bathroom. We're looking at moving again ourselves but the house prices are so expensive.. could be cheaper emigrating LOL You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |

Rep Power: 25 @ 66 ![]() | I live in a 3 Bedroom house in Pasadena, CA with a guest house and a semi big yard. The house is 2400 square feet and if we were to sell it now, it'll probably fetch upwards of $1 million. Housing in Los Angeles is ridiculous. Our hosue was built in 1954 though, and it still is holding up fairly well. Yes the plumbing needs some work as does the kitchen, but if you like an older house its not that hard to fix it up even before you move in. |

| Designer | sorry, but that really made me laugh.. 1954? Older house? Geez... you americans ![]() That would be classed as reasonably new here in the UK ![]() You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |

Rep Power: 26 @ 66 ![]() | We can't all have Roman ruins in our back yard Azhria... However, I once found an arrowhead that might be from around that time period. Does that count? My house was built in the 70's (1970's that is) and I think of it as fairly modern. I figure, if it was built after I was born it's not that old, if it was built before I was born it's either slightly old (say 1900 through 1950's) or an antique (anything before 1900). Comes from being in the auction business for a little while. I still watch all the darned auction TV shows too. Most of 'em are from your side of the pond though. (Tell me, exactly WHAT IS the deal with David Dickenson? Does he KNOW he acts like that)? ![]() |

| Designer | I don't know who he is, so can't comment ![]() It just amuses me.... there's a comedian over here - Eddie Izzard - dunno if you've heard of him. He's done a few shows in the USA - one of them done in San Fransisco, he announces himself as from "Europe... where the history comes from"... every time I speak to an American and they mention the age of something over there - like the older house build in the 50's.. it makes me laugh because I think of what Eddie said It's not meant as an insult, it just amuses me ![]() You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |
