I truly want to understand why the entire world seems to love adobe photoshop? What is it about that program that paying THRU your nose is truly worth it?I have seen some extremely talented artists using many other programs but because it isn't adobe, it's not considered REAL graphics. I belong to three yahoogroups PSP lists and one is for high quality tubers and designers. I have seen EXCELLENT work come thru but the world ignores that because it's NOT made with adobe cs...that magical program. It's like writing html. If you don't use Dreamweaver, you must not be a serious web designer. However, most of us cut our teeth on Notepad and truly prefer to see what is under the hood of or code. Dreamweaver just helps but there are MANY excellent FREE programs that can do exactly the same...give you the tools you need without messing your code up. It's the same theory for MS Office...no one says you HAVE to use it...in fact, Openoffice.org makes it nice and easy to use a free program that even plays nice with Bill Gates even tho Bill Gates doesn't see it that way. You don't have to pay thru the nose there either... Are we all like sheep, following the most expensive, hyped up programs just because it's what EVERYONE else uses? Okay, I've ranted... Yes, I use PSP9 as my graphics program of choice but I do have PS CS as well. I can NOT seem to get photoshop to do what I want it to do and I LIKE the ease of use and the helpfulness among the groups out there. But can anyone explain WHY? Liz |

Nice rant ![]() Personally I don't think anyone who doesn't use Photoshop isn't doing real graphics - it doesn't matter to me what package is used for graphics I started out with Fireworks - which compared with photoshop and paintshop pro is limited.I own CS2 and PSP9 and, in all honestly, I don't get along with PSP at all. I used it before I got CS2 and hated it so much I almost gave up on the idea of doing anything with graphics. Gary, my other half, on the other hand, prefers it over Photoshop. I have found occasions where I can't do something in PSP that I can do in Photoshop, but I don't know if that's simply because I don't know PSP as well and just don't know where the option is. As for the other things you mentioned. I use MS Office on my PC, but I use openoffice on my laptop. I don't use dreamweaver for coding at all, EVER! I use notepad or PHPRapid - depending on what I'm doing. I doubt that really answers your question as to why tho ![]() Azh You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |

The odd thing, I got photoshop first and had I never gotten PSP9, would have given up completely ON graphics. But I am learning to tube, which I have found out is HARD work and I am learning animation. http://family.southerngazebo.com/liz2.html All the graphics on that page were done BY me in PSP9. I got the tubes from others but the tile, the animation, the logo. Liz |

I think you've just hit the nail on the head - tubes.... to do the same thing in photoshop/image ready (for me at least) is much easier than going the tube route. ![]() I think it's more a matter of personal preference and maybe even the way your mind works in relation to design ![]() Can we talk you into sharing your graphics here? ![]() Azh You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |

I just bought a second copy of CS2 off of eBay (legal copy) for $299. Pretty cheap compared to alot of software I've bought. I won't use anything but it for graphics work...too powerful and flexible compared to everything else imho. btw Azhria...I have a new design I haven't released yet that I will be setting up over here soon: http://vbskinworks.com/forum/?styleid=230 |

If they're just ones you want to show, then the showcase would be the place - if they're ones you're willing to share the psd/(whatever the psp equivalent is ) or change for people's use, then the relevant subforum in the graphics area <grin>Azh You can also find me at Azhrialilu.com and It's a Bitch Thing Please do not use my IM details for support questions - refusal often offends |

Maybe so, smacklan, but PSP9 was only $129 with the animation added thanks to PSP X being out now. And like I said, it's that attitude that just gets me...that those of us who USE other programs can't be serious about it. PSP9 is nice in that it WILL save in psd format. Liz |
