Talking New version of The GIMP

We just downloaded the new version of The GIMP and it is really nice! Some actions are even more straight forward and easier to use than Photoshop. It even opens and closes as PSD images. In fact it appears to have a lot more 'save as' extensions than Photoshop has. We're going to continue playing around with it, but it's a lot easier to use than it was before, which was its biggest drawback. If they make a Universal version then we'll probably switch to using The GIMP instead of Photoshop, since Adobe never delivered on their promise to have a Universal version.

In a recent survey, 47% of Americans said they thought there was a serious immigration problem that this administration needed to address.

...the other 53% responded, "No hablo Ingles."

You traitor

Actually, I might have a look at it myself - I like variety. I tried Gimp a long time ago and disliked it immensely but I'm always open to trying again

Yeah it seemed really hard to learn back then (as if photoshop was easy) but its new layout seems more user friendly than photoshops. Plus knowing how to use photoshop gives us a better chance of learning GIMP. There are some differences, for example in GIMP the pictures 'float' until you anchor them, but once you learn these basics it seems fairly easy, and sometimes is even easier to use than photoshop. And then there's always the part about learning something new which keeps you younger Medically speaking that is true, as that is the only time that the brain can develop new neurons and pathways.

Yeah 40 bucks is a lot of money for a dealer cost program these days. Especially when you consider that Windows XP Pro cost us 29.00

Learning the GIMP not only helps increase your own graphics repertoire, but helps the graphics community as a whole. I can hear it now on another distant web site:

Person 1: Can anyone make this logo for me? We'd love to do it ourselves but we just can afford Photoshop right now.

Person 2: Download The GIMP, it's absolutely free, and then go to GFX Utopia. They'll be more than happy to show you how to use it.

Person 1: Wow thanks person 1! I'm really glad you posted. We'll download it now and head right on over to GFX Utopia! Thanks for the heads up. We can't wait to learn how to use a grahics program.

Person 2: Glad we could help you. While you're at GFX Utopia be sure to say 'Hi' to that legendary-sexy-and-handsome-devil - Colonel Ingus...

OK... so maybe the conversation wouldn't end exactly like that, but as more people learned graphics it would still help the graphics community as a whole

.
