Default Photoshop Replacement

Found this while browsing Digg the other day...

For the past nine years Pavel Kanzelsberger of Slovakia has been quietly working on a graphics application that may shake the very foundations that Photoshop have been built on. The application called 'Pixel' nears its 1.0 release and can still be purchased for a mere $32. It runs on about any OS one can imagine!

Wow, looks nice. Great find trick! I think I'll look this over a bit more and maybe I'll give it a try. I'll post back with my decision, but it looks nice!

It looks pretty good, yet I have a feeling all this "hype" wont change the product. For 32$ yes, I admit it looks great, however I doubt he can code all of photoshop's fancy styles unless he had the source code, which would be illegal.

That's what I was thinking. It's a nice program look and all, but I doubt it will ever take over PS. I don't think there will ever be a more popular program than PS..

I too do not think that it will ever take over the elaborate system of photoshop. Photoshop has already built a very big name for itself, despite its (in my opinion) ridiculous prices. However, a very good competitor is starting to become more popular, called "Gimp." Gimp is actually free, so there won't be a bunch of people needing to pirate it like some do for photoshop.

This Pixel looks almost exactly the same as PS. And I hate to break it to him, but no one will even compare the two until he raises his price. A lot of people buy PS simply because it is the most expensive and they therefore think it is "the best" when it might not be for their needs and interests. Humans are funny that way. PS does provide the most advanced editting and designing, but a beginning person who merely wants to edit some of his digital camera's photos would be betetr off with a free program like Picasa from Google.

No doubt about that, but the benifits of PS are all the aftermarket products that support it that may not work with other software. Of course a lot of programs now seem to support PS plugins and filters so that are is getting grayer.
