I noticed that i can close explorer.exe and my computer still runs, there just isnt a program to handle the icons or to organize the open programs. Is there some kind of program that replaces this and maybe has more features, like a mac style or something? Just wondering because i know there is style XP which just changes how the PC looks. Thanks.

would try asking at a computer / operating forum. we deal mostly in styles, graphics and just basics of everything that is for websites. very little for the home pc, or home server. Yes, there are several. A search of "Windows shell replacement" will get you some of the more popular including Litestep and Aston. I tried a few a while back, but they all felt lacking compared to explorer. The smaller memory footprint was nice, but not that much of a savings...and I can save it all by closing explorer and running programs from task manager. They all install and remove fairly easily, though I would make sure everything is backed up first. You are playing with a critical part of Windows..better safe than sorry |

I think the best way to get rid of explorer.exe is not to use Windows. ![]() But there is not a better option for an average user other than Windows. dipsizkuyu.net - Turkey's fountain of knowledge. |
